It's the case with any repellant or even antibiotics. It's a shame it's still on the market, but hopefully there will be more progress soon. I can only imagine that the effectiveness decreases at a steady rate and will be a matter of time before it's just completely useless.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15981640823127195741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-4630337849711174942013-02-24T13:06:59.055-08:002013-02-24T13:06:59.055-08:00Well I can say at least I do not use DEET and I fe...Well I can say at least I do not use DEET and I feel at one point or another anything can be overcome. Its only a matter of time before a new formula for mosquito repellent is going to be needed because they will become immune to the affects by a simple mutation.

Sunni-Lynn Farias (1)Peter Houlihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00961900865379520219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-69597672973264574762013-02-24T09:16:11.093-08:002013-02-24T09:16:11.093-08:00It is worrisome that DEET is the first and most co...It is worrisome that DEET is the first and most common choice of mosquito repellent being used. When used it is absorbed through the body and the most toxic effects can cause motor deficits and learning and memory dysfunction. Now that it has been proven that mosquitoes can become immune to it, I wonder if scientists will try another approach, perhaps ones that will last as long as DEET.

Lindsey Dugas (1)Peter Houlihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00961900865379520219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-3102679125836995722013-02-24T09:15:50.457-08:002013-02-24T09:15:50.457-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Peter Houlihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00961900865379520219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-28242242700433950772013-02-23T09:04:44.482-08:002013-02-23T09:04:44.482-08:00There is much controversy over the use of DEET wit...There is much controversy over the use of DEET with its toxic effects. It will be interesting to see how policy on it use towards mosquito repellant will change with our growing knowledge of its decreasing effectiveness. Evolution is constantly taking place though so ideally I hope we can find alternative repellents that can confuse the adaptability mechanisms of mosquitoes.

Marshall MoiniPeter Houlihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00961900865379520219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-60525371721513869642013-02-23T09:04:15.107-08:002013-02-23T09:04:15.107-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Peter Houlihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00961900865379520219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9008122866340502585.post-88397773882951982132013-02-21T08:10:53.504-08:002013-02-21T08:10:53.504-08:00If mosquitoes can manage to ignore this common rep...If mosquitoes can manage to ignore this common repellant, it will be interesting to see the implications for infectious diseases often spread by mosquitoes.
