A Change in Climate and Attitude

A Change in Climate and Attitude

In this age of modern media, we see thousands of news article, videos, and images every single day. They can be funny, serious and informational but they’re often misleading and opinionated; loosely anchored in fact and heavily anchored in emotion. As we can see from this Life Site article, Global warming is fake science, promoted by biasedscientists, an almost disgruntled and angry writer tries to defend the point of view that global climate change is not occurring at all.

He begins the article with a disgruntled reasoning as to why the we changed the terminology of climate change from global warming as something scientists did to mask the fact that the world wasn’t actually getting warmer. He explains that these scientists say that it’s affecting more than just temperature but precipitation and other climate factors, but to him this can’t be true because storms have always been detrimental and there isn’t anything new or worse about the more recent storms such as Hurricane Sandy. His claims are made without the consideration of the actual science of water and climate, because as water, especially form the oceans, becomes warmer it is more likely to evaporate and become trapped within the atmosphere causing more rain and increasing the likelihood of hurricanes and typhoons, according to NASA. Just because a worse hurricane occurred in the past does not mean it was too wasn’t linked to the increase in global temperature ands sea level as the example he gives us of the hurricane of 1938 Boston was still post-industrial revolution where the levels of CO2 were just beginning to rapidly rise.

To make his argument even stronger he goes onto describe how scientists can be bought out and bribed into getting the results that the buyer wants, but the amount of money that it would take to make the majority of accredited scientists to fake data and science would astronomical. Also, most companies that would bribe scientist to fake data aren’t on the side of fixing climate change and acknowledging its existence, most of these companies would rather nothing be done about so they can continue to abuse the limitations set on CO2 emissions.

Towards the end of his rant he accuses the supporters of global climate change to have been using flawed data and incorrect science, yet he doesn’t cite a single scientific study in his entire article. His entire article consists of sensationalist statements that aren’t backed up with fact, science and in some cases logic.

This article is a clear example of media that tries to discredit scientific work with statements made from opinion and emotion which is easily the most detrimental kind of media to our society, and it happens on all sides of the political spectrum.  As this media has become more and more popular in modern culture we have seen a rise in the belief of these statements, this has lead us to where we are now with our law makers being the ones making the ridiculous statements and believing in them as well.

  1. I couldn't agree more that most of these fake/ highly biased articles are overwhelmingly based solely off opinion rather than scientific facts and data. This article is no different. It's amazing how this author goes on such a rant picking specifics to warp support for his opinion (ie comparison of storms) and yet he has no accredited research or sources to cite. I find it quite hard to make a case without any type of physical proof which this author has none of. I agree too that our lawmakers seem to be supporting these views over the highly researched and supported views of accredited scientists because that means its one less trouble for them to deal with. Our world with its easy access to almost anything often seeks the easy way out and this article is no different. This author hasn't done any physical research himself, he hasn't designed a research to support his hypothesis. Much like many lawmakers now, they don't do the necessary work to see all viewpoints they see the easy one and automatically support that idea rather than focus on the tangible results that others have found that goes against 'the easy way'.

  2. I like that you noted how he does not actually site any scientific paper in his article to back up his beliefs. It seems that this entire article that is just expressing his opinion, making conclusions that seem logical to him but are not based in any actual fact. It's ridiculous that people choose to believe a belief rather than numerous reputable scientific papers with actual data to show that global warming does exist.

  3. I decided to research the news outlet that this article was published by: Life Site News. According to mediabiasfactcheck.com, a website dedicated to educating the public about media bias and deceptive news practices, has ranked Life Site as extremely right biased, meaning they often publish misleading reports and omit information that may damage the conservative agenda. I also found that Life Site was founded by Campaign Life Coalition which is known for being anti-abortion and opposing gay marriage, solidifying the political bias of the media outlet.

  4. Interesting read. I find it funny how all these people who report false news make these bold claims with no logic or actual evidence to back it up. It's just one giant idea that snowballs into something even worse.

  5. It's crazy how much people's lives are governed by what they want to hear. It's sad that people in positions of power and influence manipulate our propensity to comfort to further their agenda. Nobody wants to think somethings wrong, let alone that its a disaster and that its their fault. Worst of all people don't want to be told that they need to change, and that change requires work. People want to live in comfort, and part of that is also not wanting to think about the possibility of a random universe. People want to know that everything's going to be ok, there is a god, there is a heaven. When people link something like no climate change with religion, even though there's no real connection, people buy it, because life is god's will and deep down we want somebody to tell us it's alright. It's sad that people are using this vulnerable quality to gain political advantages. It might be even sadder that some grownups are not grown up and can't think for themselves.

  6. People seem to always find a reason to not believe in something even when there is countless evidence that climate change has been occurring. There was no real evidence in his claim and he mostly tried to come off smart and knowing when in reality they are ignorant to what is actually happening. Some people like him are too stubborn to see that climate change is real and is effecting the earth at a fast rate.

  7. People like this are the reason why not enough is being done world-wide to prevent and help the stop of climate change. No matter how much information or data is prevented there are some people who will just never believe the facts right in front of them. However there needs to be a way to stop the spread of false information that is doing harm to our planet.
